Sex and Ads

The idea of writing this article came to my mind when I saw an advertisement of a "cat food". About a month ago, I entered youtube site to download a song. I always used to skip the ad portion shown before the song. But, on that day I accidently saw the ad of cat food. After watching it I was really shocked why the ads include the female sexism for a total unsexual product. On thinking over it again and again I understand that women are made as cheap marketable objects to sell the products.
Women play a major role in almost all ads. Instead of highlighting the qualities of products to be sold, they use women a means to sell their products. Women's portrayal in today's ads is not on the right track. A major deception ads does to women is their hyper-sexualism. Instead of showing woman as a whole, each body part is separately shown and focused with sexual connotations which I think is a cunning marketing trick used by advertisers.
As I mentioned earlier, even in the ads of non sexy products, womens are often used as sexualised beings.
In the ads of kitchen appliances, women were represented in good manner simply to show the easiness of cooking by using the product. Also, the qualities of products were highlighted instead of showing a sexy lady.
From the above ad it is clear that the product to be sold is given higher importance-no..full importance. Here, women are just shown in an intelligent, respectable manner. But, at present, this situation changed a lot. Today, woman is viewed as a sex object. She is normally wearing something revealing. The guy and woman are dancing in kitchen and she is willing to give him in the ad sex if she gets an appreciation for her cooking. Thus instead of pointing on the qualities of vessel or whatever the product is, they are making woman a center of attraction.

In the above ad of cat food, the woman is exposed in a bad manner.
Cat food is a total non sexy product. Still the body parts of woman is shown with sexual attractions. In this ad, after getting home from a night out, she seductively dances around a fireplace. After hedonistically telling viewers, "My passion. My cat. My choice," she ends by chugging milk out of the bottle. All these actions made her marketable.
By watching these types of ads, the thing that I pointed out is that the woman is represented in an unintelligent and unrespectable way. In real life, will the guy prance with woman in kitchen talking flirtatiously about the food she cooked or shampoo she used ? But this stupid thing is happening in advertisements.
So women should be given respectable roles in ads instead of selling their sex. Furthermore, sex is a holy thing in nature. Showing it in a faulty manner is quite unfair.

Review: Freedom from the known

This is a review on the book "Freedom from the known" by Jiddu Krishnamurti. I read this book about 2 months ago. This is the one and only book that I read from cover to cover with full concentration. I want to share my experience because this is the most deepest book that I have ever read and it was a challenging experience for me. The book is a philosophical one which includes the subject matters such as freedom, fear, self-centered behaviour of humans and finally meditation.                                                              The first part of the book describes about "Freedom". Here the freedom means getting free from all authorities. That is, free from the nasty rules of the society, religion and whatever the authority is and be with a fresh, young and an unconditioned mind. Jiddu mentioned that we should not merely f...

An Era of Reading Books

The shelves once filled with books are now empty. The parents or grandparents showing books with colorful pictures and telling them stories was a common scene during our childhood. Children were interested in reading rather than playing video games. The parents (especially father) were used to take us to public libraries when they have free time. I still remember that my father used to take me to the library near by on every Saturday. Reading books by sitting on the bench in front of the library was such a nice experience. According to Marcus Tullius Cicero, a room without books is like a body without a soul. The smell of old paper has not yet gone from my mind.  By reading books, we will be imagining all parts of the story, poem or whatever it is. While imagining, we are using both our mind and brain which is the most advantage of reading books. The ability of creative thinking is getting developed by reading books.  Last year while I am doing my PG, we (me and...

Mushrooming Boutiques in Kerala: The rise of Fashionista

Fashion is a popular style or practice, especially in clothing. For many people fashion is of higher priority while for others keeping up with trend isn't much important. The one thing that stays the same with fashion is that, it always change . Now with giant chain stores like Fabindia and the dawn of fashionistas like Pallavi namdev and Donna Karan, fashion trends change faster and more global than ever. Let's have a glimpse on the trends in clothing among teenage girls which pave the way for the growth of boutiques.  The full skirt with long blouse, was once the traditional dress for teenage girls. But it's now disappearing from the fashion screen of Kerala. On ceremonial occasions and festival days, girls used to worn Pattu paavada. This is simply stitched from the nearby tailoring shops. But now such a scene has vanished.  The half saree facilitates the transition from pattu paavada to saree, something a bit more complicated garb. But the changi...
