Review: Freedom from the known

This is a review on the book "Freedom from the known" by Jiddu Krishnamurti. I read this book about 2 months ago. This is the one and only book that I read from cover to cover with full concentration. I want to share my experience because this is the most deepest book that I have ever read and it was a challenging experience for me. The book is a philosophical one which includes the subject matters such as freedom, fear, self-centered behaviour of humans and finally meditation.

The first part of the book describes about "Freedom". Here the freedom means getting free from all authorities. That is, free from the nasty rules of the society, religion and whatever the authority is and be with a fresh, young and an unconditioned mind. Jiddu mentioned that we should not merely follow someone else. Following shows that we are under his/her authority.

The next part mentions the topic of "me". This mainly focus on the self-centered behaviour of human beings. All of us are concerned with our own personal matters-our own life. Here, the author is asking why shouldn't we like that? When I think on this question, I understand that he is not saying us to be a narcissist. But simply admit that we are self concerned.

The next part is about "fear". I think this the deepest part of this book. This is the portion that I read with more interest because of the ted talk by Jiddu on "The Nature and Total Eradication of Fear" which impressed me a lot. Here, it is stated that the reason behind fear is the unawareness. That is, we are not living our life with full awareness. People usually make comparison between themselves and others. This is due to the fear to see themselves as they are.  Another major reason for fear is "attachment". Attachment always makes a fear in losing someone.

The final part describes about "meditation". The meditation simply means observing our own thoughts. To make an awareness about ourselves and what we actually need, meditation is the best option.

When I completed reading this book, actually I was left with many questions about myself. The first part of the book was hard for me to understand. Then I read it again and again and after 4 times I understand what its actually about and why I didn't get it for the last 4 times. So, if you find any difficulties to understand while reading this book, its simply because of you unawareness. Anyway. it was the most honest reads that I have ever experienced.

Coffee please...

Coffee please... This is the perfect start for our day. In fact, drinking coffee has become so addictive that some people can't get through the day without slurping atleast a cup of coffee in the morning and evening. The History of Coffee It is in the Ethiopian highlands, where the legend of Kaldi, originated, the coffee trees. It is said that he discovered coffee after noticing that his goats, upon eating berries from a certain tree, became so spirited that they did not want to sleep at night.  Kaldi dutifully reported his findings to the abbot of the local monastery who made a drink with the berries and discovered that it kept him alert for the long hours of evening prayer.  Soon the abbot had shared his discovery with the other monks at the monastery, and ever so slowly knowledge of the energizing effects of the berries began to spread.  As word moved east and coffee reached the Arabian peninsula, it began a journey which would spread its reputation across ...

An Era of Reading Books

The shelves once filled with books are now empty. The parents or grandparents showing books with colorful pictures and telling them stories was a common scene during our childhood. Children were interested in reading rather than playing video games. The parents (especially father) were used to take us to public libraries when they have free time. I still remember that my father used to take me to the library near by on every Saturday. Reading books by sitting on the bench in front of the library was such a nice experience. According to Marcus Tullius Cicero, a room without books is like a body without a soul. The smell of old paper has not yet gone from my mind.  By reading books, we will be imagining all parts of the story, poem or whatever it is. While imagining, we are using both our mind and brain which is the most advantage of reading books. The ability of creative thinking is getting developed by reading books.  Last year while I am doing my PG, we (me and...

The Light Behind The Darkness

Behind every darkness, there is a light. But most people in our society  don't  want to bring that light to ignore the darkness. Almost 95% of the people are narrow minded. They are not even making an attempt to see what the darkness is and what the root cause of that is. Many people say that “if there is light, then there is darkness. Its fate…”.  But I believe that this is an utter nonsense. All human beings have the ability to lighten up this world. If each and every one of tries to understand this, then the darkness can be ameliorated. All human beings are responsible for the darkness. Don't you ever think about those who are living in the darkness and whose dreams have fed up in that deep hollow? All of us have to think about this. Otherwise we will be the losers in the life from the perspective of the society, from the perspective of the world and even from the perspective of this sacred nature. Those people in such a dark world will be mentally weakened. So,...
