Is being woman a boon or bane ?

"Behind every successful man there is a woman".
We all have heard about this quote. But, due to the attitude towards women by the current society, a question arises that whether being woman is a boon or bane. Eventhough woman is being active in all fields of work, the society is male dominant. The most blessing that the God has made to a woman is that, only a woman can give birth to a new one. Famous persons like Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela were all born only because of a woman. It is she who give birth to a child, take care of it and make him/her tomorrow's treasure. It is she who understand her partner, sacrifices for him and always be with him in his happiness, sorrow and whatever it is. Being an individual person, it is she who makes different roles at a time as daughter, mother, wife, sister so and so. Still why the society is showing injustice to the woman ?

In India, many organisations had launched for the empowerment of women. All such organisations tries to raise up the woman to the level of man and also to ensure the rights of women. Active participation of women in every field such as politics, social works, science and technology etc. has made slight changes in the male dominant culture of the society. Still, the single but the most obstacle faced by women in India is the sexual harassment. She is struggling each and every moment to get rid of sexual assaults in the working place, school, college and even in the home.

You all may have heard the news that a 2 day old baby girl was sexually assaulted by her grand father. She has been hospitalised and was receiving medical attention. But she didn't get rescued and passed away after the painful 6 days. In many instances, men have misbehaved with women. Some women come out and make complaints while some others don't. In India, both men and women are well educated and cultured. But, unfortunately the society treat women so. It is a shame that the woman, young girl and even the girl child have to go through this harassment.

Descriptions about women was first put forward in Manu Shastra. In this manu shastra, Manu defined women as objects of one's desire. I personally disagree with this interpretation made by him. As followers of Manu, most of the men in the current society seems women  merely as toys. More precisely, they treat women as mere sex toys. Is this the right approach towards women ? This situation have to be changed. Making such a change may be somewhat hard. But, its possible by treating women with respect and also introducing strong laws and orders in protecting women's rights.

All of us have to do as much as possible to save women from the sexual assaults. We all should shout against this cruel, barbaric and unbearable approach towards women. We all have to fight together till the end of this disdain towards women.

Review: Freedom from the known

This is a review on the book "Freedom from the known" by Jiddu Krishnamurti. I read this book about 2 months ago. This is the one and only book that I read from cover to cover with full concentration. I want to share my experience because this is the most deepest book that I have ever read and it was a challenging experience for me. The book is a philosophical one which includes the subject matters such as freedom, fear, self-centered behaviour of humans and finally meditation.                                                              The first part of the book describes about "Freedom". Here the freedom means getting free from all authorities. That is, free from the nasty rules of the society, religion and whatever the authority is and be with a fresh, young and an unconditioned mind. Jiddu mentioned that we should not merely f...

An Era of Reading Books

The shelves once filled with books are now empty. The parents or grandparents showing books with colorful pictures and telling them stories was a common scene during our childhood. Children were interested in reading rather than playing video games. The parents (especially father) were used to take us to public libraries when they have free time. I still remember that my father used to take me to the library near by on every Saturday. Reading books by sitting on the bench in front of the library was such a nice experience. According to Marcus Tullius Cicero, a room without books is like a body without a soul. The smell of old paper has not yet gone from my mind.  By reading books, we will be imagining all parts of the story, poem or whatever it is. While imagining, we are using both our mind and brain which is the most advantage of reading books. The ability of creative thinking is getting developed by reading books.  Last year while I am doing my PG, we (me and...

Coffee please...

Coffee please... This is the perfect start for our day. In fact, drinking coffee has become so addictive that some people can't get through the day without slurping atleast a cup of coffee in the morning and evening. The History of Coffee It is in the Ethiopian highlands, where the legend of Kaldi, originated, the coffee trees. It is said that he discovered coffee after noticing that his goats, upon eating berries from a certain tree, became so spirited that they did not want to sleep at night.  Kaldi dutifully reported his findings to the abbot of the local monastery who made a drink with the berries and discovered that it kept him alert for the long hours of evening prayer.  Soon the abbot had shared his discovery with the other monks at the monastery, and ever so slowly knowledge of the energizing effects of the berries began to spread.  As word moved east and coffee reached the Arabian peninsula, it began a journey which would spread its reputation across ...
