An Ideal GURU

This is something I want to write from the bottom of my heart. While reading this article, one may not feel that this is something special. This is because words are not enough for me to disclose the murmuring sound of water over the pebbles in my mind.

There was a character called "Ekalavya" in the epic Mahabharata. Ekalavya aspired to study archery under the guidance of Guru Dronacharya (Drona), the greatest known teacher in the use of weaponry and martial art. Deeply hurt by Drona's rejection, Ekalavya carved Drona's statue on a tree trunk in a forest. He accepted the statue as his guru and practiced in front of it daily. Time went by. One day the princes and the guru came to that forest. As Arjuna aimed at a particular difficult target, an arrow pierced the target. Shocked, the boys and their teacher looked around. They saw Ekalavya, who went up to touch Drona’s feet. “Who is your teacher?” Drona asked. Ekalavya quietly led him to the statue. Drona did not want anyone to be better than Arjuna. He thought for some time and said, “If I am your guru, give me my gurudakshina.” “Surely, sir,” bowed Ekalavya. “I want your right thumb, replied Drona. Ekalavya wordlessly cut off his right thumb and laid it at Drona’s feet.
From one point of view, we can see Ekalavya's devotion to his guru. But what I want to focus is on the aptitude of Drona. How royally he influenced his students. This is the ability of an ideal guru. An ideal guru is the one whose very sight makes us bow in reverence without any thought. The reason why I described this story is to make a remembrance about a teacher, guru which stands by you in your journey of life.

I completed my graduation in 2014. When someone asks me what I actually gained from my college life, I will, without any doubt, say the greatest treasure I got is an ideal teacher. From my previous article (Behind the veil) it's clear how much pressurized my mind was. But while writing this article, I am very much relaxed only because of an IDEAL GURU.

I still remember his first class. It was during the third semester. From that semester onwards I always used to say, "woah...he is the real teacher who know what to teach and how to teach. Also he has a mind that at least tries to listen to his students". By the end of that semester a majority of students were praying to get his guidance in all the coming semesters. I really want to be in his class by choice and not by force. Unfortunately, I didn't got a chance to be his student for the next 3 semesters. Then during the final year, we all got his guidance. When we were about to leave the college, I was greatly in an unhappy mood.

It's not always easy to change a student's life by a teacher. Only a great teacher can do so. I realized this while I went through something troubling in my personal life and need someone to talk to. Without speaking a single word, my teacher noticed that I am struggling and intercede before it's too late. Undoubtedly, a good teacher is the one who is able to whisper in a student's ear- an inspiring awakener of how to learn from the challenges in life and how to face it strongly.

Review: Freedom from the known

This is a review on the book "Freedom from the known" by Jiddu Krishnamurti. I read this book about 2 months ago. This is the one and only book that I read from cover to cover with full concentration. I want to share my experience because this is the most deepest book that I have ever read and it was a challenging experience for me. The book is a philosophical one which includes the subject matters such as freedom, fear, self-centered behaviour of humans and finally meditation.                                                              The first part of the book describes about "Freedom". Here the freedom means getting free from all authorities. That is, free from the nasty rules of the society, religion and whatever the authority is and be with a fresh, young and an unconditioned mind. Jiddu mentioned that we should not merely f...

Mushrooming Boutiques in Kerala: The rise of Fashionista

Fashion is a popular style or practice, especially in clothing. For many people fashion is of higher priority while for others keeping up with trend isn't much important. The one thing that stays the same with fashion is that, it always change . Now with giant chain stores like Fabindia and the dawn of fashionistas like Pallavi namdev and Donna Karan, fashion trends change faster and more global than ever. Let's have a glimpse on the trends in clothing among teenage girls which pave the way for the growth of boutiques.  The full skirt with long blouse, was once the traditional dress for teenage girls. But it's now disappearing from the fashion screen of Kerala. On ceremonial occasions and festival days, girls used to worn Pattu paavada. This is simply stitched from the nearby tailoring shops. But now such a scene has vanished.  The half saree facilitates the transition from pattu paavada to saree, something a bit more complicated garb. But the changi...

The Light Behind The Darkness

Behind every darkness, there is a light. But most people in our society  don't  want to bring that light to ignore the darkness. Almost 95% of the people are narrow minded. They are not even making an attempt to see what the darkness is and what the root cause of that is. Many people say that “if there is light, then there is darkness. Its fate…”.  But I believe that this is an utter nonsense. All human beings have the ability to lighten up this world. If each and every one of tries to understand this, then the darkness can be ameliorated. All human beings are responsible for the darkness. Don't you ever think about those who are living in the darkness and whose dreams have fed up in that deep hollow? All of us have to think about this. Otherwise we will be the losers in the life from the perspective of the society, from the perspective of the world and even from the perspective of this sacred nature. Those people in such a dark world will be mentally weakened. So,...
